Finding Delight in God

Psalm 1:1-3 KJV

1 Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.

2 But his delight is in the law of the Lord; and in his law doth he meditate day and night.

3 And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.

When you find delight in and take pleasure in the Law of the Lord and meditate therein day and night instead of choosing to follow in the way of the ungodly, the scripture declares that you will be blessed. There are four blessings outlined in this text.

  1. Provision - You will be like a tree planted by the rivers of water. This means you will live in a place of continued sustenance and provision. You will lack nothing for the Lord is your Shepherd. (Psalm 23:1, Isaiah 40:11, Phil 4:19)

  2. Productivity - You will bring forth fruit in season. You can always expect a harvest. You can rest assured that your labor will never be in vain. You will always be producing. (John 15:5)

  3. Perseverance - Your leaf will not wither. You will not dry up or burn out because you will be constantly refreshed and strengthened by the life giving stream of the Word of God. (John15:6, John 6:63, Psalm 119:28, Nehemiah 8:8-10)

  4. Prosperity - Everything you do will prosper. You will have continued and lasting success in every area of your life - spiritually, physically, socially and financially. (Joshua 1:8)

We can experience the fullness of the blessings of God when we delight in Him. When we take pleasure in and enjoy His Word and make the Word of God our constant and habitual meditation.

Let this be your prayer today:

"Open thou mine eyes, that I may behold wonderous things out of thy law."

- Psalm 119:18

Take a few days to read, reflect on, and study Psalm 119 in its entirety. It will bless your life.
